for everyone who asked how it was done: i call this technique "inverse lightpainting" because i don't actually "paint" anything, i just shoot lights that look interesting and then jerk the camera around a bit during the exposure. so a lot of it is just chance.
this particular one was a twisted metal sheet sculpture illuminated from the inside, which i thought looked pretty cool. [link] and [link] are from this location, too.
